Concessions, Facilities & Benefits granted to Ex-Servicemen and Dependants from Government of Kerala

1. Housing Schemes​


The State Government has introduced this scheme for the welfare of the disabled Ex-servicemen boarded out and widows and dependents of jawansand in the absence of them ex-servicemen below60 years are provided with a financial assistance of Rs. 200,000 for construction of house. Annual income limit is Rs. 300,000. The application should be submitted at the District Sainik Welfare Offices, within 5 years from the date of death/ retirement of ex-servicemen. Income limit is not applicable to widows of jawans who died in war and jawans who were boarded out due to disability.

2. Cash Award to recipients of Gallantry Decorations​


Cash awards are given by the State government to Keralites who have been awarded Gallantry Decorations. This benefit is extended to the recipients of ParamVir Chakra to Mention-in-Despatch.

3. Cash Award to recipients of Non-Gallantry Award winners​


The recipients of the ParamVishishtSeva Medal, AtiVishishtSeva Medal and VishishtSeva Medal are given a one-time cash award of Rs.100,000/-, Rs.50,000/- and Rs.25,000/- respectively by the State Government.

4. Cash Award for Territorial Army Medal winners​


Cash award of Rs. 5,000/- is awarded to TA Decoration/ TA Medal recipients of Territorial Army units.

5. Chief Minister’s Sainik Welfare Fund​


As per the scheme, dependents of defence personnel who are killed, missing or maimed in war or war-like situations are provided with financial assistance up to a maximum of Rs. 10 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Sainik Welfare Fund, subject to eligibility. Paramilitary/ GREF category are also eligible for this benefit. Defence/ Paramilitary/ CAPF personnel who were disabled in encounters with terrorists/ naxalites are eligible for financial assistance up to Rs.3 lakhs.

6. Cadet Scholarship​


Cadet Scholarships are given to Kerala cadets who have received direct admission in military academies and military nursing colleges/ schools and continue their service after receiving commissioning in the army. Scholarship amounts of Rs. 200,000/-and Rs. 100,000/- are given to Officer Cadet and Nursing Cadet respectively.

7. B.S.S (Bright Student Scholarship)​


The state government provides an annual scholarship (from Rs. 2,500/- to Rs. 4,000/-) to the children of ex-servicemen who excel in studies from 10th standard to post graduation. Annual family income should not exceed Rs.3 lakhs. Those who have secured not less than 50% marks in the annual examination may apply for the scholarship.

8. Financial assistance to World War II veterans and their widows​


As financial assistance to World War II veterans and their widows, a monthly allowance of Rs.8,000/- is provided (for those who were in service between 03.09.1939 and 01.04.1946). Those who have been redeployed, whose annual family income is more than Rs.50,000/- and who are receiving other pensions are not eligible.

9. Scholarship​


Children of Ex-Servicemen studying in various Professional/Vocational/Technical Courses are eligible for Scholarship of an amount ranging from Rs. 3000/- to Rs. 10,000/- per year from Amalgamated Fund subject to certain conditions.No annual income limit.

10. Financial assistance for entrance coaching​


An amount of Rs. 9,000/- is provided to the children of ex-servicemen for appearing Engineering/ MBBS entrance examinations subject to terms and conditions (limited to 300 applicants only).

11. Rehabilitation Training​


A maximum of Rs. 30,000/- per person is provided for institutions providing rehabilitation training to ex-servicemen and their dependents, subject to conditions. Vocational training programmes are also provided to get employment in various fields.
